Requirements
A Certificate in Boiler Operator (12 months Certificate), and an appropriate hands on experience gained in boiler operating. COMPETENCIES: Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act of 1993 and Regulations. Skills- planning, organizing, verbal and written communication skills.
Duties
Activate valves to maintain required amounts of water in boilers, to adjust supplies of combustion air, and to control the flow of fuel into burners. Adjust controls and/or valves on equipment to provide power, and to regulate and set operations of system and/or industrial processes. Ensure continuous and reliable operation of boilers. Monitor and inspect equipment, computer terminals, gauges, alarms, safety devices and meters to detect leaks or malfunctions. Observe and interpret readings on gauges, meters, and charts registering various aspects of boiler operation, in order to ensure that boilers are operating properly. Arrange for repairs, such as complete overhauls, replacement of defective valves, gaskets, etc. Supervise boiler assistants. Operate boilers in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
